  Fossilised mussels
by Mique

Ste-Croix-du-mont is build on a layer of fossilsed mussels. Which again are on top of a rock. It tops the whole area. Appartently this part was sea 25 million years ago. And when the sea retreated the mussels stayed behind. Wind and water have made small caves in it where often wine is stored.

If you go to Ste-Croix you can't miss this. Just walk down the small stairway in front of the church and from there you can walk past the mussel bank.

The 2 shells on the picture still look like they have their pearly shine. And i thought them to look like ears. Listening to what went on in the world...
