"Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the St. James General Store, the oldest continuously operating general store in the United States. It's fully restored to its original turn-of-the-century charm and furnishings. The Store is part of the Suffolk County Parks historic sites and is operated by the Friends for Long Island's Heritage; proceeds help to support historic restoration and historic interpretative programs in the County." I was here recently while filming my LI doc. and maybe my parents brought me here when I was 3. It sits on the LI Heritage Trail which is just gaining popularity since its designation this year. The place is very well peserved and has origional furnishings. I bought some string licorice (black one) here along with traditional LI music. I never even knew there was traditional LI music. There is a 1920 Apothecary feel inside with all old bottles and jars on shelves that look untouched since World War ll. The general store is in a stones throw of Deepwells Farm. Its definately worth a stop
