The old chapel hiding in a corner
by Pavlik_NL

One of the oldest buildings of Mechelen is hiding in a rather dirty corner on the Melaan, a long stretched square that is sided by modern as well as old houses. It's the chapel of the "Arme Claren" from 1513. This group of nuns devoted themselves completely to Jezus Christ and were deliberately saying "no" against all possessions (therefore "Arme" which means "Poor"). There example was "Clara of Assisi" that also handed over the name of the nuns "Claressen" or "Claren". The chapel itself is not open for public, yet keeping a little secret within the town.

Directions: From the Hof van Villers onto the square. You'll pass the chapel on the left hand side.
