Vis-a-vis the small town Hohnstein, on the opposite bank of the Polenz valley there is a sandstone rock called "Hockstein". It is a great viewpoint, very popular among locals, but almost unknown outside the region.

It offers fantastic views of the small town and especially the castle. Please have a look at the valley as well: you can see a geological specialty. North of the Hockstein (left) the valley has a V-shape (granite) and south (right) it has a U-shape (sandstone).

My favourite season for a visit is fall - leaf peeping!!

There is a parking ground (free up to two hours, day ticket 3 Euro) on the road Lohmen - Hohnstein, close to the restaurant Hocksteinschaenke. From there it is a walk of about 10 minutes (signposted) to the viewing point.
