  impressions of some ancient towns
by Leipzig

Everywhere in Turkey, especially in the southwest and west you find numerous ancient towns. Troy (Troja) and Ephesus are perhaps the most popular. Feel the magic of thousands of years when you walk on mosaic streets of Ephesus, see the great temples, apartment houses, the Celsus Library and the stunning theatre.
I was here in summer of 1997. It was a very hot day and the white stones reflected the sunbeams so that it felt much hotter. However, this site is a must to see. It is a huge interesting open-air museum.
Another ancient town is Pamukkale which name means "Sacred City" because of the large number of temples it contained. The town is traditionally an ancient Phrygian city, founded in 190 BC by the king of Pergamon. In the 2nd and 3rd centuries, it reached the height of its development as a Roman thermal bath center. One of the bath are the "chalky terraces" whcih are open for tourists. Quite crowded to bath in but great to see.
