On the "Veemarkt" (Cattle market) one still can see the splendour of the high tide days of Mechelen. Here it was also that the first centre of town grew, around the Peter & Paul church and the royal (empirial) court. The market was, as it's name tells already, the place where meat was sold. The old "Vleeshuis" (Meathouse) is no longer there. It was broken down in the late 19th century. Many other stylish patrician houses are still to be admired. Their wonderful facades making up a magnificent view on either side of the square.

Directions: Through the "Biest" you enter a wide square, start crossing it in the length.
