  Lion Monument
by zaz

In 1792 more than 700 Swiss guards died while they defended the palace at Tuileries of King Louis XIV and Marie-Antoinette. The Lion Monument is a stone sculpture in honour of the Swiss Guards who were massacared in this battle The sculpture was carved out of a sandstone cliff face near Lucerne's Glacier Gardens in 1821.
If you really look at the lions expression that has been carved you can see the sadness of what happened.

Address: Galcier Garden, Lucerne, Switzerland
