Lapland or Lappi is home of the Sami people, located in the very north of Finland, Sweden, Norway and the Kola peninsula. It belongs to the subarctic zone, with mild summers and very cold winters. In average years snow stays on the ground over 180 days. North of Rovaniemi, at the Arcitic Circle is Santa Claus' workshop. When I was here (August 25) only a few tourist were around to buy candles, balls for christmas trees, jumpers and gingerbread. I wonder why?
The south of Lapland is marked by a rich flora but the more north you go the poorer the fauna gets. In the north barren grounds make it impossible for treet to get nutrients. In all parts of Lapland is a rich wildlife - reindeers and elks can be seen very often.
