"Ride a becak down Jalan Malioboro." Indonesia Favorite Tip by worldkiwi

Favorite thing: On my first trip to Indonesia as a student, in 1989, I really enjoyed my time in Yogyakarta. We were lucky enough to meet the Sultan and Sultana in their palace. We also visited Borobudur and Prambanan temples just out of the city. One highlight was the "mail run" to the post office to send our postcards home to New Zealand. We used to take becaks down Jalan Maliorboro. A becak is a type of pedi-cab.
In 1995, when I returned with the same school (but this time as a teacher), I don't remember seeing so many becak. However, the post office was still there - a fine old Dutch colonial building, resplendent, at the end of Jalan Malioboro.
