"Medieval village" Sortelha Favorite Tip by micas_pt

Sortelha General: 7 reviews and 7 photos

Favorite thing: Sortelha is a lovely medieval village built in granite inside the castle?s walls. Its history dates back some centuries ago to the Middle Age (Dark Ages?!). Its former importance was lost in the 19th century, with a new planning of Local Administrative power.

Nowadays, Sortelha is classified as historical village. It is part of 20 village route, and Sortelha is amongst my favourite (that is, from the historical villages I have visited so far). It is very well kept, and while walking through the cobbled narrow streets you get a feeling of ?medievalness?, ? quite hard to explain, actually. Seems you went back in time, and you almost expect to find some medieval inhabitant as you turn over a corner.
