"Jiao Shan" Shanhaiguan Things to Do Tip by Yso

Shanhaiguan Things to Do: 18 reviews and 28 photos

Jiao Shan is about 3km north of Shanhaiguan. It is where the Great Wall goes over it's first high peak.

The wall here has been rebuilt for tourism, but if you cimb up you can keep climbing after the reconstructed bit on the 'real' wall. This is fantastic but a little dangerous - be sure to wear good shoes and preferably not do it alone. the wall is falling down and in places is very unstable.

Entrance to this part of the wall costs 15Yuan. There is a chair lift which is an option if you want to walk on the old wall, as the climb is quite hard. Views from he top are outstanding.

Once again, there is piped Kenny G from every tree top which i a bit of a bore, but this dissapears once you get out of the main tourist part.

There is also a monastary up here. In my Lonely PLanet it says that it is poorly accesible and a haven of peace, but these days there is a concrete foot path going all the way to it, with music and lots of tourist - hardly a haven of peace.

From the top you can see Yansai lake and the sea and hills rolling away from you.

Directions: Get a taxi or a motorbike taxi to get there. It will cost about 10 Yuan one way
