Near the small square where you can access the pedestrian tunnel towards the other side of the Schelde (St Jansvliet), you can see the statue of the Belgian painter Jacob Jordaens.

He was born in Antwerpen in1593 and he died also in Antwerpen in 1678.

He studied under Adam van Noort

His works can be seen in the big art museums all over the world, like in the Hermitage - St Petersburg, Louvre - Paris, Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts - Brussels, J. Paul Getty Museum - Los Angeles . . .

Some of his famous works are The King Drinks (Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts - Brussels), Adoration of the Shepherds (Mauritshuis - The Hague), Jesus driving the Merchants from the Temple (Louvre - Paris)
