Just west of the Mississippi, the Landing was once St Louis' busy warehouse district in the days of steamboats. Today it is called Laclede's Landing, and those warehouses have been restored into bars, restaurants, and nightlife venues along its cobblestone streets.

The only disappointment that I experienced while in St. Louis was to walk the streets of Laclede's Landing and feel nothing but negative about the place. The cobblestone streets are a nice touch, but it seemed quite "seedy" to me. Perhaps if I had seen it at night when it is more of an entertainment district, I would have appreciated it more. My friend Jill was there years ago, and she also thought that it had "slipped".

The only photo that I took was down an alleyway where the Gateway Arch could be seen. It was a cloudy day so the results are not spectacular.

Unique Suggestions: Laclede's Landing Merchants Association has a phone number (314-241-5875) and a website (www.lacledeslanding.com). They advertise and list all the merchants there.
Here are some of them:

Banana Joe's Sports Bar, Embassy Suites Hotel, Fat Tuesday, Jake's Steaks, Mississippi Nights, Old Spaghetti Factory, Planet Hollywood, St. Louis Fish Market, and the Wax Museum.

I hope that if you go to Laclede's Landing, it is at night with the hustle and bustle of the restaurants and bars creating a feeling of the "heyday" of the St. Louis Blues era.
