"Left luggage offices" China Favorite Tip by mke1963

Favorite thing: Most railway stations have left luggage facilities, either the staffed version or in secure lockers.

I have used the lockers many times, with no problems. The instructions are usually in Chinese and English, and a typical fee is RMB15 for 8 hours for a large locker. If you get back after the 8 hours, don't worry...your possessions are safe, but you will need to put more money in to get an access code.

You enter the money in the central 'screen' and it will generate a piece of paper and a locker access code. The relevant door will spring open, put your luggage in and close the door. To lock it, press the flashing red button on the door.
At most places there are separate sets of lockers for soft and hard class, but you may need a ticket before getting access to the waiting hall where the lockers are situated.
