Built in 1515 by Dom Manuel I, (architect and scupltor Francisco Arruda), this tower is one of the landmarks in the greater Lisboa area. This acted as a fortress on the river during the age of exploration. The architecture is very unique - Manueline (aptly named after Manuel), Byzantine, and Gothic styles are intertwined. Today it is even a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
