Oyster Cards / Travelcards, London: 162 reviews and 101 photos
London is one of the few places in the UK to have an integrated transport service. A Travelcard is a must, unless you are only travelling by bus (see my pages on Bus Travel)
The travelcard comes in many forms - the simplest being the one-day travelcard (£5.10 (at 06.01.2004) for all zones, but most tourists will only need a zone 1 (or 1&2) travelcard). This allows travel on buses, underground, Docklands-Light-Railway and overground (British Rail) trains. They are a lot more expensive before 09h30 Mon-Fri.
You can get a weekend travelcard which gives you a saving of around 30%. This is valid for Saturday AND Sunday.
The best value, if you are travelling with children under 16, is a Family travelcard. All Zones for an adult is £3.20, with the kids paying 80p each! Only one adult needs to travel. The only snag is that the "family" needs to travel together.
