"Spend several days in the..." United Kingdom Things to Do Tip by KathyW

Spend several days in the Cotswolds. We based for three days near Stow-in-the-Wold and were able to experience much of the Cotswolds-- but not enough! We were especially intrigued by the villages of Upper and Lower Slaughter, Snowshill, Guiting Power, Swinbrook and Minster Lovell. The larger market towns of Burford, Moreton-on-March, Chipping Campden, and Broadway were also interesting.... more shops, hotels and restaurants.
Two hours outside of London is a different land.... of rolling hills, green and gold fields, old stone houses, sheep and lambs-- the Cotswolds. It's truly a time warp. Even the buildings that are new look old! I highly recommend this area to anyone visiting England.

The country roads are mostly one lane, bordered by stone walls or high hedges, You drive a few miles and suddenly a small village appears-- a church, a pub, a few houses, flower gardens. The grass in early May was a bright green, dotted with sheep. We were attracted to the golden fields-- rapeseed. We took a couple of long walks (we call them hikes in the US).... the marked walking paths actually cut through private farms-- you're expected to shut the gate behind you! Watch carefully where you step when you walk through a field of sheep... sheep really are kind of messy close up!

The picture below was taken in a field just down the road from our hotel. We're in somebody's field... watching where we step! You can see a field of rapeseed in the distance. This is a typical Cotswolds scene-- just beautiful!
