The Eiffel Tower on a Spring afternoon
by Erin74

The Eiffel Tower is Paris' greatest landmark and an enduring symbol of the city. It was built for the International Exhibition of Paris of 1889 and was immediately controversial. Many Parisians hated the great tower and hoped that it would be quickly torn down, as originally planned. Instead, the Eiffel Tower was allowed to stand because the antenna attached to it was extremely useful. Today, the Eiffel Tower is the most popular tourist attraction in Paris.

The Eiffel Tower has three platforms from which you can view the city. You'll find the Jules Verne restaurant on level two. You must make reservations if you want to eat at this exclusive restaurant. On the top platform you'll see the office of Gustave Eiffel. From any of the platforms you'll have an excellent view of the city and surrounding areas.

It's relatively inexpensive to take the elevator up the Eiffel Tower, bu the lines can be really long. Come early in the morning to beat the crowds. At mid-day, we waited an hour to buy tickets, and then another hour on the second platform to get to the top.

Elevator costs:
1st floor: 4,00 ?
2nd floor: 7,30 ?
Top: 10,40 ?

Or, you can take the stairs to the second level for 3,50 ?. It's a long climb, be prepared!
