May all the good luck comes true & bad luck averted! This is the reason for tying Omikuji around a tree branch.

Like the Buddhists, the Shintoists go to the shrine & seek some aspects of fortune telling.
Omikuji are fortune telling paper slips randomly drawn & contained predictions about good or bad fortunes.

As a matter of interest, I wonder how long they'd keep those papers on the tree branches! Just curious ;-)
