The Ramparts of the Red Fort, Agra
by Paul2001

The Agra Fort after the Taj Mahal is the most famous tourist attraction in Agra. Commonly known as the Red Fort after it's red sandstone ramparts, the fort is one of the best in India. It would be worth traveling to Agra just to see this fort even if the Taj did not exist.
The fortress was begun by Akbar the Great in 1565 but was completed by Shah Jahan who added many of the interior apartments. The fortress is a series of elaborately decorated courtyards and halls. The ramparts around the fort are massive being 20 feet high. They extend for 2.5km around the perimeter of the fort.
The fort cost a whopping R300 to enter making it one of the more expensive attractions in India. It is open from dawn to dusk

Directions: Towards central Agra, 2km from the Taj Mahal
