"Centum Cellae - II" Belmonte Off The Beaten Path Tip by micas_pt

Belmonte Off The Beaten Path: 9 reviews and 9 photos

We visited these ruins on our way out of Belmonte ? it is near Belmonte, on the outskirts of a small village. It was a Saturday afternoon and the door was opened, so we just got in. The ruins are surrounded by a fence, and I have no idea if that door is always opened or not ? apparently there was no one taking care of that. Once you get in, there are lots of details and stones on the ground of what might have been other buildings or infrastructures. But undoubtedly the ?thing? to see is the Centum Cellae building, or tower. Centum Cellae is classified as National Monument since 1977 and it is considered to be in excellent condition as might be seen by the windows and doors frames. Also, don?t forget to notice the ?things? on top of the building, which define it?s exquisite appearance (best seen on my previous photo).
