Sokolowski's University Inn: "Bite into Polish history." Top 5 Page for this destination Cleveland Restaurant Tip by erikatheskysailor

Cleveland Restaurants: 110 reviews and 73 photos

SUI is a warm, cozy and overtly Polish restaurant. The place looks like a cabin (with a dark-lit atmosphere), and is filled with charming decor, much of it historical Polish-related. There's a pianist whom plays an eclectic collection of tunes, and there's alot of photos of celebrities who've visited this fixture of a restaurant in Cleveland. It's located in Tremont, minutes form downtown. One large dining room features a huge fireplace! SUI really does seem like a cozy family cabin; family atmoshpere included.

The food is not overtly delicious & tasty, but is filling & satisfying... not the healthiest place to eat. You serve yourself at the counter, like at a school cafeteria. There's not a huge selection of food, and what's there is greasy. Mostly there's the usual starchy, protein fare, but they also have salad, fruits and the like. There's a decent dessert & beverage selection as well. There's a bar, as well, but I didn't go there, so I couldn't tell you how it measures up. It's a restaurant for the lonely wanderer, a couple (not a romantic place, though) or a family.

This is a place to go if you really want to become familiar with a culture that is very interwined with Cleveland and if you want to bite into some Cleveland history, too.

Call for hours & parking info.

Favorite Dish: I don't have a favorite... SUI is not a place I'll be frequenting, but I did have the pierogies, which came soaked in watery, runny butter and covered with gobs of onions... too many onions. It was decent enough; filling, but not enough to bring me back.
