Albergo Trento: "Close to the Railway Station..." Verona Hotel Tip by mapakettle

I have no idea who was in my bed...

Albergo Trento is located (according to their brochure) only 400 metres from the arena, and 500 metres from the train station. Not having a method of confirming this statistic, I'll accept the measurements, but have grave doubts as to accuracy.

The hotel is on Corso Porta Nuovo, which is a very wide street leading directly from the station to the centre.

The entrance was pleasant, and clean. The lobby, marble, not overly fancy, with a stern, no nonsense type behind the counter (she inspired confidence re- safety concerns) with tiny bar area.

We were on a scouting mission to find accomodation for my mother-in-laws visit in July, and wanted something easy to reach/find, and this hotel seemed to fit the bill. The price was reasonable, 80 euro per nite, or 90 euro including breakfast.

We have always gotten a chuckle out of the need to have breakfast included, but, seeing as how the next morning was Easter Sunday, we weren't sure whether anything would be open before lunch...and I need my coffee. Our experience with breakfast in Italy has been surprisingly good, so we took the option.

Handing over our passports (this still is strange to us), we traded identities for keys to our new home. There is an elevator (great), because the stairs wind tightly around a narrow staircase, which would be difficult for the elderly, or those encumbered with lots of luggage.

The room was neat, clean, marble floors, sparse, with a wardrobe, and private bath, and a curtain around the shower stall, which unfortunately did not reach all the way to the floor. Otherwise, the bathroom was very modern, with a bidet, and two sets of real towels, and another set of the thin flimsy type often found in Italy.

We had a comfortable matrimonial sized bed, plus a single bed in our room, so additional pillows were available. A desk with chair, and two shuttered windows facing the street, TV, thats it. (balconies avail. in some rooms)

The hotel room was reasonably priced, and quiet.

Unique Qualities: The best selling point of this property would be the location in regards to train travel. Also, close access to the Piazza Bra which leads to countless eateries and bars, and all the sights of Verona.

A suggestion however, DO NOT TAKE THE BREAKFAST OPTION. We now understand what others have complained about in previous hotel stays throughout Italy.

Breakfast consisted of a 'package' of dry 'toast', a wrapped donut, which tasted like a stale, outdated Twinky, a thimble sized portion of spreadable cheese, and a packet of jelly, and a packet of Nutella. Oh, and coffee, which was fine. That's it, no juice, yogurt, cereal, buns, cheeses...nothing else.
Rip off, rip off, rip off. (cost 5 Euro each)
