  ..undeniable simplicity..

Favorite thing: S. Asunta, that's about what it translates to from the near heiroglyphics that the friendly old Italian resident scribbled in my notepad. This is the church whose door so impressed me on the intro and whose light was shining in my Arquata del Tronto pages.
The church of the Ascension is not huge or opulent, it is a church of the people and has a special meaning for them. I felt it touched me in some way, it was church going on a human scale, something I felt more at home with, even though I am a professed atheist.

Fondest memory: The old but authentic workmanship that went into this building bore an undeniable simplicity borne of village artisans and struck a chord with me at least.
The stone pieces on the roof were so at odds with the excesses of St. Peters that I found them very moving.
