A pleasant walk fron the Bus Stand along the main road downhill towards Dharamshala for about 1km will take you to the small 'Church of St John's in the Wilderness'. A leftover from the British times in Northern India, this is a small church with attached cemetary set in amongst tall pine trees just off the road. When we went the chowkidar was happy to show us around the inside of the church and asked for a small donation to help with the upkeep. It was fascinating to wander through the graveyard and look at the (fading) headstones of residents of McLeod Ganj from an era long past. Another amusing anecdote - I think the chowkidar was the only native Hindi speaker in the whole of India who commented how BAD our Hindi was!! I was taken aback when Edwina asked why she didn't speak better Hindi...ha ha ha, good on him!

Directions: Follow the road from the Main Bus Stand downhill for about 1km (You will see in on your right when you first drive into town from Dharamshala too)
