  The Empire State Building
by Paul2001

By way of the horrific tragedy on September 11, 2001, the Empire State Building is once again the tallest building in New York City. The building stands 1,454 ft./436m high and even when it placed second to the World Trade Center, it was a leading landmark in the city. In fact I made up it to the top of the Empire State Building before I visited the World Trade Center. It is a very good example of the Art Deco style of architecture that was popular in the early decades of the last century.
Some interesting facts about the Empire State Building. It too was the victim of a run in by an airplane when an U.S. Army bomber flew into it by accident in 1945. Fortunately it was on a Saturday and few people where in the building. The famous silver spire at the top was suppose to be used for zepplins to moor onto. Today the building is the home of headquarters for many fashion related firms.
I went all the way up to the 102 observatory deck. The views from here were quite amazing inspite of the haze at the time of my visit.
It cost $12.00 for adults to go up and $7.00 for the kids. The decks are open daily from 9:30 to midnight. Security is tight here as you might expect these days. Backpacks are allowed but will be thoroughly searched.
