"St Stephan's Cathedral" Stephansdom - St. Stephen's Cathedral Tip by mvtouring

  Catacombes

Austria's most important example of Gothic architecture. Bishop of Passau ordered the construction of the church in 1140 but the original church was destroyed and then rebuilt in 13th century. The high altar is a masterpiece created by the brothers Johann & Tobias Pock. The crypts, incorrectly titled ıcatacombsı are located beneath the Choir loft and is certainly worth viewing. Unfortunately it has been partially cordioned off so you are not able to get to the front of the church anymore like we were able to do.
