Inspired by Banjo's comments I decided to check the walk out for myself. Needless to say, in my usual fashion, I got lost en route, veering left at Bagnoli and going uphill instead of plunging through the town.
A few kilometres up the hill and I saw a sign signifying Trieste was a mere 4 kilometres away. Since I had travelled about 10 trying to get out of it, this was disappointing to say the least.
I did a "U" turn and came upon two Val Rosandra signs, hung a left and went for the nearest.
As best I can make out I ended up near a tiny village called Mocco and parked my car, put my backpack on and started to walk.
