  The Amazon Jungle

This place is heaven. I would go and live there if I could. The place is environmentally friendly and employs locals to work there. I got there on a tour with Gap Adventures. Each room has a bathroom with shower. There is no electricity, just candles and parrafin lamps. It's whole existance is about being at one with nature. The rooms have a view that no other hotel could ever offer. Each room has a huge window, which is basically one of walls with no glass, just you and the jungle. Within minutes of being there we saw monkeys in the trees. It can be a little scary at night when the animals come into your room, but it is only fair seeing that you went into the theirs. We also had a hammock in our room which helped to relax and enjoy the experience a whole lot more.

Unique Qualities: Each room is in a lodge, there are no doors or windows. Each room has a lockable box to keep food and personal possessions safe. The food is amazing, largely locally grown and cooked using local recipies. There is fresh fruit and juice on hand to snack on during the day. Walking from the lodge to the dining area can be an adventure in itself, you get to see all manner of animals including snakes and lizards.

I could not recommend this place highly enough. It was what I expected and so much more. A trip to Peru is not completed without a trip to the Jungle.
