  Once a "heaven"
by Sharrie

THE RED FORT (Delhi) was once intended to be a royal city for Shah Jehan (who built the Taj Mahal for his wife) after the death of Mumtaz Mahal.

Named as such because of the red sandstone battlements that surrounded the "city".

This new city was to be the transfer of the imperial capital from Agra to Delhi.
The Red Fort had been said to be a "paradise on earth" by Shah Jehan.

6 royal palaces (mahal) used to grace the Red Fort.
1) Mumtaz Mahal - a museum today.
2) Rang Mahal - the "painted" palace.
3) Khas Mahal - the emperor's private apartments.
4) Moti Mahal
5) Zafar Mahal
6) This one I've yet find out its name! Anyone?
