The best part of Tenerife is the north of the island; I have little doubts about this. Without entering in any discussion about the kind of tourism that heads blindly to the sunnier areas of the south (Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos), I simply prefer the spectacular landscapes of this part of Tenerife, rather than the dull semi-desert and arid south. Besides some well know places, like the overrated Icod de los Vinos (the Dragon Tree, you know), it holds many interesting surprises, such as Los Realejos, a quite small village that is, by far, much more charming than Icod.

But above all, I simply loved the roads up there, the dramatic cliffs, the banana plantations, the little pleasures of being on the road. If you go there, I will suggest you to stop for a coffee at one gas station called "El Mirador" between Icod and Los Realejos. It's a gas station, so don't expect much charm there. What you could expect are a simply breathtaking view of Tenerife north coastline.
