You know you have to go there - the Tourist Info Centre - known as TIC (spelt out ... t,i,c) and the staff are very helpful and keen.

Also, the City Mill is kind of interesting. However, putting the two together is a bit pushy.

A general criticism of mine, regarding these TICs, all over Scotland, is that they are all the same. There is little regional identity or character. The staff wear uniforms, the endless trinkets for sale (to fund the place) are uniformly dull and only reinforce old stereotypes of "tartan tat". Little gimicky items, which you may well have been tempted to buy in Edinburgh - and your whole trip must now run the gauntlet of this repetition, ... the Colin Baxter photographs, the tins of Shortbread, cassette tapes and CDs of folk music, woolen scarfs in obligatory reds and green tartans. Oh god, I'm falling asleep.

Unique Suggestions: Check out the Mill, get all the maps and info you want, crack a few jokes to liven up the staff (they'll look confused at this!), then get out of there - you're wasting time if you're browsing!!!!!
