"Visit Tintern Abbey." Cardiff Things to Do Tip by jtb2inky

Cardiff Things to Do: 373 reviews and 989 photos

We visited this site early in the morning. The clouds were breaking up beautifully, and the fog was starting to life. This was a great time to see this site. Like so many of the abbeys throughout the UK, Henry VIII destroyed Tintern when he broke away from the Catholic Church and started the Church of England. This abbey in ruins is now one of the most beautiful things to see in all of Wales. The combination of a fantastic cathedral-like setting with the green grass that you see throughout the country is a mystical site. Walk through the abbey and enjoy its' simple pleasures.

Directions: Located 5 miles north of Chepstow. It is a bit off the beaten path (perhaps I should have put it in that section) but well worth a trip to see. Come by car, but I do understand that buses from Cardiff
