"The Waag (weigh-house)" Waag Building Tip by MATIM

Waag Building, Amsterdam: 3 reviews and 3 photos

Favorite thing: The Waag building on the Nieuwmarkt in Amsterdam was originally a city gate. The gate was built in 1488 and is the oldest secular building in the city. It is like a castle with its ponderous towers and solid walls, and standing on the Nieuwmarkt it is right in the middle of the city.
The Waag has had several functions in the course of its turbulent history.
Since 1996, the Waag has once again been open to the public. The ground floor houses a restaurant that can seat 250 guests.
On the second floor, the Anatomy theatre has been given a new lease of life as a setting for today's virtual reality.
