"overnight train bookings" Thailand Transportation Tip by oceania26

Thailand Transportation: 410 reviews and 309 photos

A great way to travel around Thailand is by train. You'll save money, time and it's safe. I'd recommend to reserver overnight sleeper trains in advanced. You can do so by emailing the booking office in Hualamphong Railway Station with your itinterary. You pay when you pickup the tickets or you can make other arrangments if your departure city isn't Bangkok.

The train is definitely slower than bus or plane but if you want to save money and time (travelling by night), it's best to go with a train. Most overnight trains leave around 5 or 6 in the afternoon and take about 12 - Bangkok/Chiang Mai or Bangkok/Butterworth. You also save on accomdations for the night and the train officials will wake you up well before you get off the train.

I took the 2nd class sleeper and it was was comfortable and clean (you're given fresh linens and blankets).

The squat toilets are obviously a little to be desired for but it's not that bad if you can take it.
