At the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, if you look closely, you can see the detail of the semi-precious stones inlaid into the marble in various patterns.
The process of which is very time consuming and highly skilled. Each petal of the flower or part of a leaf or bud is shaped from semi-precious stones on handgrinders. Then marble is dug out by simple iron chisels by using finger's pressure only to the size, shape & thickness of the shaped stones. Then the same shaped pieces are fixed into the grooves with the help of a special glue.
