  Forum Floor
by Jmill42

The Forum of Pompeii, just as the Roman Forum, was the heart of social, commercial, and political activities in the city. It was an elaborately designed "square", flush with a marble floor of a 100 x 450 foot area. Unfortunately, whats left of the floor is just a fraction of that. This is thanks to the people of Naples who ravaged the floor and recycled the marble for their buildings. But, do not go yelling at the people of Naples today. This happened in the 1700's, before anyone thought there would be a use for "ruins".

You will see many pedestals around the area, indicating that there were many statues at some point in the past.
