"Mysterious Masca" Isla de Tenerife Things to Do Tip by agarcia
Isla de Tenerife Things to Do: 625 reviews and 958 photos
Before reaching Punta de Teno, in the western part of the island, one of the best keep secrets of Tenerife could be found. Masca Valley, with its impressive rock formations, its always menacing weather conditions and the little village that lies on its floor, hardly ever causes indifference to the viewer. I remember thinking: "Machu Pichu!!!" as the configuration of the valley immediately brought to my mind the image of the mythical mountain in Peru.
If Masca existence still remains almost unknown, is partly because access to the valley is constrained to the use of a terrible mountain road... of the kind that no rookie driver should be allowed to drive ;-) On a second thought, it could also be due to the lack of decent beaches in the area. Go figure.
Directions: If you follow the North highway of Tenerife, after leaving Garachico there's a detour to Masca.
