The best views of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore are from the water, so boat tours are very popular in the warmer months. We booked passage on such a boat and were more about half way through the tour when we encountered a thick fog bank formed by the cool waters of Lake Superior clashing with the warmer air along the coast. This was on a beautiful sunny afternoon in August, and the fog was still so thick that the tour was cancelled in mid-course. Our Captain turned the boat back and offered all the passengers on board a full refund of our $25 ticket price. We got about almost three quarters of a tour for free. Nice people!

Directions: Take Hwy. #28 into the center of downtown Munising. Take Elm St. north (at the Time and Temperature sign) and go one block, across the tracks. Pictured Rock Cruises ticket office and gift shop is on the left side of the dock.
