"Come for the Beer, stay for the Sights" Schwabing - Leopoldstrasse Tip by pedersdottir
Schwabing - Leopoldstrasse, Munich: 6 reviews and 6 photos
Just beyond the University on Leopoldstrasse is the charming, slightly Bohemian district of Schwabing. Refuge of freethinkers and artistes for generations, it is also one of the prettiest parts of town. Pedestrians strolling through the English Garden should follow the signs pointing to Ohmstrasse or Thiemestrasse and take a right hand turn leaving the park. Stroll the meandering streets and peek through wrought iron gates to catch glimpses of flower pots or lavish gardens in bloom. Follow the Park's edge along Mandlstrasse and you will soon discover a cafe or two, tucked in between the houses, perfect for a pause along your way.
If you seek more of a street scene with a taste of cafe society, head away from the Park 4-5 streets to Leopoldstrasse itself. Ethnic eateries and chic bars line both sides of the boulevard for blocks.
Directions: North of the Old Town, easy to reach by U-Bahn (U3 + U6).
