Alpine meadow in Sangre de Cristo Range, NM

After spending a few days in Santa Fe, we headed for the hills. The Sangre de Cristo mountain range has some peaks that reach 12,000 feet. The trailhead began at about 8,500 feet.

Our first night, we set up camp at this location, which was at about 10,000 feet. We thought we had found the ideal spot -- an alpine meadow high in the mountains, overlooking the Nambe Valley far off in the distance.
