  Bridge Over the River Kwai
by AlbuqRay

Near the town of Kanchanaburi is a bridge over the Kwai River made famous by a movie. The original bridge was wooden and was built by the Japanese using forced prisoner-of-war labor. It was replaced in 1943 by an iron bridge. Evidently, except for some of the metal arches, not much is left of the replacement World War II bridge. In Thailand, it is the Khwae Yai River and is pronounced as "qway."
