For people who feel uneasy in a non-familiar environment, the best bet are the hotel chains that offer similar levels of standards across the world making it difficult to determine whether you are in Amsterdam or in Nairobi. The most famous international chains are obviously present in Spain, but not all around the country.

The long hosting tradition of Spain has resulted in the birth of several national chains that are present in almost every city and even internationally.

The biggest Spanish hotel group is Sol/Meliá, which includes both city hotels (Melià and Tryp hotels) and resorts (Melià and Sol).

Unique Qualities: I would say that the strong point of Melià are the beach resorts, although some of their city hotels are still the top offer in several Spanish cities. The top hotels are included in the "Gran Melià" Selection, which offers great comfort and excellent service but rarely do take that extra step that turns a hotel into a unique place.

The "Melià Boutique Hotels" are also a great option, as they are located in historical buildings or pay particular attention to the decoration and atmosphere.
