  Christ Church Cathedral

Christ Church Cathedral is the focal point of Christchurch. This beautiful cathedral was consecrated in 1881, and follows the same model as the English church of Christ Church, Oxford. It really is an amazing building, and has an incredible history which is told very well by any of the guides.

I enjoyed my visit. It was a little empty when I was there, so I actually got a personal tour from an older lady who worked there. She knew absolutely everything there was to know about the cathedral and gave great answers to any questions I had. It was a good experience, and I ended up learning a lot about the history of the city of Christchurch as well.

Attached to the cathedral is a visitors centre, cafe, and giftshop. All proceeds from sales are used to maintain the building.
