What remains of the Colosseum today is only a fraction of what it was back in the olden days, when crowds gathered to watch gladiators and wild animals fight inside it. It is a major historical monument in Roman history, and an absolute must-see for anyone visiting Rome. The walls and spectator stands are all stone, with many entrances and arcs, much like a Spanish bullring. There is also a maze inside it.

You'll probably see some local men dressed as gladiators posing for pictures outside the Coliseum. If you do take a picture, you have to pay them, when I was there it was usually 1000 Lira per picture.
