"The Star Ferry and the HSBC Headquarters" Skyscrapers Tip by Eszter

Skyscrapers, Hong Kong: 61 reviews and 92 photos

A must for all Hong Kong visitors is a ride on the Star Ferry, which connects Kowloon with Hong Kong Island.
The Star Ferry is Hong Kong's most scenic and affordable way of crossing Victoria Harbour. It's been in service more than 100 years. The eight-minute ride between Central and Tsim Sha Tsui will enchant even the most jaded traveller.
This picture was taken in 1996, so many of the large skyscrapers that now dominate the Hong Kong skyline were missing at that time.
The building in the very center of the picture is the Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation Headquarters. Designed by acclaimed British architect Sir Norman Foster, the super hi-tech HSBC Headquarters in Central is a marvel of modern architectural design. It is one of the most expensive buildings in the world, at nearly US$1 billion.
On a more traditional note, it is believed that rubbing the paws of the two bronze lions that have guarded the portals of the bank since 1935 invokes good luck.

Address: HSBC: 1 Queen's Road, Central
Directions: Central MTR exit K.
