  Mondriaan in Rotterdam
by Imaniac

Favorite thing: Mondriaan is one of Holland most celebrated modern artists. Together with Theo van Doesburg he created the arts movement De Stijl which is still famous all over the world.

Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan was born in Amersfoort in 1872. In his early years he painted in an impressionistic style. When he moved to Amsterdam in 1910 he began experimenting with symbolism and pointilism. That gradually evolved into his most famous style, kubism.

Because of the threat of Germany, he moved to London in 1938. And then to New York, where he died in 1944.

Fondest memory: I've been a fan of Mondriaan's work for ages. And I was so glad to finally see some of his work at the Boijmans van Beuningen museum in Rotterdam.
