The Smell: "Smelly Underground Venue Rocks My World" Los Angeles Nightlife Tip by rattay

Los Angeles Nightlife: 227 reviews and 170 photos

The Smell is one of the few all ages music venues left in LA. But that doesn't mean that everyone here is underage. And while most clubs/venues are all about selling booze and making money and feeling exclusive, the Smell is about underground music. Shows are usually about $5 and feature bands that will be unknown to most people, especially those not in the scene. However, this is the sort of place that allows new bands and musicians to play, even if they won't bring in the big bucks. And for that, Los Angeles should be very grateful. The Smell also often functions as an art gallery. But be warned: the Smell is the Smell for a reason and I suspect it has something to do with the dumpster in the alley. Also, if a homeless guy asks you for some money to watch your car, I advise you to do so.

Dress Code: ha ha.

Directions: On an alleyway off 3rd St. that runs parallel to Main Street in downtown LA, you will find a modest door with a crowd of scenesters out front.
Theme: Live Music
