  Mosque inside Kazan's Kremlin
by darthmilmo

We arrived to the lovely city of Kazan, inside the Tartar Autonomous Republic in Russia. It is a lovely town with both Tartar (descendants of the Mongolian invaders) and Russian influences. You can see the Muslim traces of the Tartars interwoven with the Russian Orthodox. The white Kremlin itself has both a Mosque and a Cathedral. It makes for an interesting combination. The main tourist street in town is Baumana Ulitza. At the end of the street lies an interesting clock with Muslim symbols. The Baumana Ulitza makes for a nice walk as well. It has several delicious cafes/restaurants worth exploring. There is also an interesting Tower and several lovely fountains, which were partially frozen the first day we arrived. The Russian Orthodox Easter took place a week after the Roman Catholic Easter. Since it was Easter Sunday in Russia, we went to the lovely SS Peter and Paul Cathedral and witness a live mass. It was an interesting experience as I've never taken part of a Russian Orthodox ceremony. Many of their traditions remind me to those held by the Roman Catholics during medieval times. It's as though they're more traditional to the old-rooted believes. The rest of the time was spent wondering around the city.
