  The Golden Temple, Amritsar
by Canadienne

We only spent about four days in Punjab, but the glimpses that we caught have left me eager to return and further explore the state. The highlight of our visit was, not surprisingly, the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

Amritsar itself is an interesting city, with some other worthwhile sites (the Mata temple and the Jallianwala Bagh memorial, in particular), as well as an appealing market area. The better part of any visit though, can be whiled away in the complex of the Golden Temple (Hari Mandir). This is the Sikh religion's holiest shrine and we found the atmosphere to be not just spiritual, but proud as well. . .befitting the reputation of the Sikh people.

Much like the Taj Mahal, if you spend your day here, you'll be able to see the sun's ever-changing effects on the buildings.
